New Drug Education Site Up

Fri Dec 07 17:01:01 -0800 2007

I am part of the Drug Free Ambassadors and we are working out how to get 100,000 drug educations books out in ONE DAY! We just put a new website up using Rails 2.0 and Mephisto…

The Drug Free Ambassadors have just put a new website up.

It is called Drug Facts and is really, quite funky

You see, we have 100,000 of the truth about drugs booklets to hand out, we are getting 100 volunteers together to be part of the action, and then 25 teams of 4 people are going to hit the streets of Sydney to hand out these booklets all day to strangers and give them all the truth about drugs.

It is going to be an awesome event!

If you are in Sydney, or will be in Sydney on the 28th of December, go to the site and sign up at the help out page. We want all the help we can get to make this event a fantastic success!

The site itself was developed in a very short time using the Mephisto blogging system (which this blog also runs on) and allowed us to make the site fast with comments, feedback forms (using James Crisp’s contact_form plugin ) and easy to edit and maintain.

I so love it when I read about drug education. I’m also very disappointed that not many people do anything to promote it, so it’s good to find out that some are actually doing something. I’m so upset about it because my son used to take drugs. I’m lucky since specialists at Narconon helped him and he managed to quit, but others may find it harder. So what I suggest is that drugs education should be implemented in schools as well.

Sometimes I wonder if drugs education really helps. I mean, I guess there are people who get to the point where they don’t care what happens with their life since they think everything is useless, so they start taking drugs. I used to think differently until a friend of mine started using them. He had every reason not to. He had a family, he was a very smart guy with great plans for the future, he told me that he was interested in an executive leadership development program, which means (I thought) that he really aimed high. No one knows what happened to him, why he made this choice but the fact is, now he’s in a drug rehab facility and one thing is for sure: he didn’t lack education.

In my experience I have learned that education is sometimes not enough to stop or prevent children from taking drugs. I have an online masters in public administration degree and a health care degree so I know what I’m talking about. Of course, this event is helpful and it’s worth encouraging these sorts of activities, but sometimes I have the feeling that something’s missing when it comes to fighting drugs.

I completely agree with Charles. Education is the key but there are also other factors that have a big influence on kids. Take the friends for example. I have read an article about drugs and it said that most kids start taking drugs because of their friends or schoolmates. Thanks God for drug rehab facilities. I also have an online masters in public administration degree but I’m not an expert so I m only stating my opinion.

Education is very important even if there are other aspects that should be taken into account. For example I know someone who would simply refuse to take drugs due to religious views. She took courses at anonline Christian University and she had strong believes. The point I want to prove is that we have to take advantage of every detail and possibility to stop drug addiction.
